Choose details that make a home feel yours
Practical advice on scale, materials and everyday use for rooms that feel considered and comfortable.
01
Start with fit
Check the seat height
Make sure your feet can rest comfortably on the floor or on a footrest, with thighs supported and knees not pushed too high.
Read the guide →02
Support where you need it
Look at lumbar support
A shaped back or adjustable lumbar pad can help a chair feel more supportive during longer sitting periods.
Read the guide →03
Pick the finish
Choose the right material
Mesh can feel cooler, faux leather wipes clean easily, and upholstered finishes may feel softer in a home setting.
Read the guide →Questions shoppers ask
What counts as a bad back chair?+
Usually a chair with support-focused features such as a shaped backrest, adjustable height, lumbar support or a higher seat for easier sitting and standing.
Are gaming chairs better than office chairs?+
Not always. Gaming chairs can offer generous padding and a high back, while office chairs often provide more usable adjustment for desk work.
Should I choose a firm or soft seat?+
A firmer seat often feels more stable for longer sitting, while a softer seat may suit shorter periods or casual home use.
Is lumbar support enough on its own?+
It can help, but chair height, seat depth and armrest position also affect how comfortable a chair feels in daily use.
What is a high-seat chair for?+
A higher seat can make it easier to sit down and stand up, especially when getting up from a low chair feels awkward.
Do I need a headrest?+
A headrest is useful if you recline often or want upper-back and neck support, but it is not essential for every shopper.
